I don't understand why you say God's grace departed earth. The Bible says we are in the dispensation of Grace (ephesians3:2) right now, where sins are forgiven by God through faith in the blood of Jesus.

God's grace is here within each person who chooses to embody it and embrace it. It never left.

That ichabad was God taking his protection from the temple and Jerusalem. He lowed it to be destroyed and the jews go into servitude to the gentiles but his grace has preserved the Jews as a people sunce then.
