The virus (which is called 2019-nCoV) incubates within 1-2 weeks, at this time infected persons can already be contagious.
Many infected people may not even know they are infected, even with mild symptoms.
The disease caused by the virus (which is called Covid-19) is harmless in most cases.
Only 15 out of 100 have serious symptoms.
But especially individuals without symptoms are keeping the virus "alive" (a virus is by definition not alive, but you know what I mean). The reliability of the test routines used to detect the virus itself is at least controversial.
In order to stop the virus, every person on earth would have to quarantine themselves for a few weeks to end the spread. Something that would not even be logistically possible.
All that can be done is to systematically slow down the spread in order to relieve the health system and the economic engine that drives everything.
Even if scientists were to develop a vaccine quickly, our laws will prevent a quick use without rigorous testing.

This virus is "alive" and healthy and can only be slowed down at this point in time. Only if the spread of the virus is made significantly more difficult is it possible to stop it completely.
But unfortunately it is not in the hands of governments or authorities to do this.
You have to do it.
Do not touch your face, wash your hands (minimum 20 seconds) with soap before using your hands to eat or touch faces.
If you have to cough or sneeze, never use your hand. Use your elbow or a tissue that you throw away directly.
Do not let the virus get into your eyes, nose or mouth, in most cases it will get there from your own hands.
There is no need to panic, just take more care of your hands.
If you are pre-burdened and considered part of a risk group, follow this advice very carefully.
You can help slow down the virus by simple means.
