Very cool! Synchronicity :)
For starters, brc100 as I understand it defines how wallets talk to each other (an interoperability standard). It’s not a wallet spec per se. You can think of it like this: a wallet can use brc-42 (BKDS) for key derivation AND be brc100 compatible for app interaction. But wouldn’t necessarily have to be.
So a non-custodial wallet like Simply Cash can use brc 42/43. Yes.
But you couldn’t convert simply cash to brc 42/43 because the keys would be different. But I suppose the wallet could implement the new brc42 key scheme - but the assets wouldn’t talk to each other. And it would be a mess. 🤷🏻♀️
Also, you don’t need “xpub” in a BRC 42/43 key system because xpub tells you where you are in a hierarchical key structure (BIP 32/44) which you no longer have/need in brc42.
Does this make sense? Did I get at your question?

You’re absolutely right about brc100, I had forgotten completely about it being a communication protocol between the wallets.
Yes it makes sense to a degree. Heard it mentioned about Simply Cash not being able to convert but, without the information you have provided here.
I thought that the Xpub key was essential for creating a Watch wallet especially when you create cold storage; I do like the watch feature though. :)
I hope I have overstood this correct. In a BRC 42/43 key system, we can have all the keys but would be different, and the Xpub key is not need nor available that system.
Having Bitcoin in cold storage with Simply Cash generated keys. Would I be right in thinking that Simple Cash keys couldn’t be used, to recover your bitcoins in a BRC 42/43 key system or wallet?
• Can storage be setup in a BRC 42/43 key system?
• Can a watch wallet be created in a BRC 42/43 system?
I hope I am making sense with my questions.
Overall I would love to have the same features and functionality despite the keys being different in a BRC 42/43 key system. :)
