conversation trees are non-linear and multi-dimensional. they increase the bandwidth of thinking and writing in single player mode, and the bandwidth of communication among participants in multiplayer mode

Branching structures do pose problems for us humans existing in linear time though 😊

It's interesting to me that Knovigator is perpendicular to Reddit:

In Reddit, when I have a "Branching failure", it's because it goes deep first, and after falling down a long branch, it's hard to get back to the level where the real conversation was happening, and the points in the conversation are often literally separated by large distances on the page

In Knovigator, I see the width of the conversation, or the summary of a persons whole thoughts in a single column at once. But I can't easily tell down which branches I'm going to find the sweetest fruit.

do you think these conversations would be possible in a tool like slack? i feel like maybe one or two of these threads would survive... but most would be lost

No, but I hardly even compare slack... I find it to be both an abysmal communication tool (due to lock-in/enterprise gardening) and an abysmal knowledge tool (due to linearity, the scroll, lack of structure, etc.).

To precisely your point: my primary experience of Slack is that of knowledge getting lost...
