The connector-circle on the right of the original instance of the first tweet in this thread displays 2 instead of 1. I thought it would only be concerned in tracking number of branches, but seems like it is working analogous to reply-count on Twitter. What a shame!

hrm well if you think of it that way there can only be one branch, this is it, the only branch, you can branch another reply off,, the way to branch off is to reply here & that's how you branch,,,,, but i'd say the number is the number of branches but the branches might just be one comment & the beginning of all of the branches is consolidated here

it's interesting that it's different enough that there's more than one way to think about what this structure means in our normal analysis of internet forum structure :o

knovigator used to have multiple branches from each message, but no one got it. even now, it takes time for people to grok even a single branch, and as mungo alluded to, each message in the "single branch" actually constitutes an entire infinitely branching tree itself, so you can treat each one as a separate branch if you so desire
