You did use a couple of ultrasonic sensors. And you know Arduino has 8 bits, therefore the resolution is low. But those projects are fun.
I have as well used Arduino several times.
You can use Arduino accessing to ordfs or gorilla pool to show the graphics in an small touch screen...
