haven't talked too much about it... basically Roots shows you just the top level threads in the stream, while branches shows you every branch no matter how "deep" in the tree it is, but...
even in Roots mode, when you upvalue a post, no matter how deep it is, it will be shown in the stream, so it's a way of elevating deeper comments to the audience who have Roots set
Roots is the default for most people, so by upvaluing you not only repost, but elevate good branches to the entire Treechat audience
So without any upvalue, the "Branches" mode mirrors the Treechat "stream" as written/timestamped on the blockchain?
you can kind of say that, but I wouldn't try to compare them directly as blockchain only deals with messages and not threads or streams. the point is that Branches will show every branch, so if I'm 3 branches deep into a conversation, the people with Branches selected will see those threads in the Public stream, but the people with Roots wont unless they start exploring from the root thread (which does show up in the stream), or unless someone upvalued a message at the head of some branch
we are planning to do some ui updates which will make the difference between root and branch threads more obvious so this will come across with more clarity
