This is a false argument that is being spread around to make people look silly.
They are constantly checking for different mutations by analysing virus-code. To do that, they need to sequence diff samples, isolate it.

How is it a false argument?
No "variation" or "mutation" or any COVID-sars whatever virus has ever been isolated in a pure form, separated from genetic material therefore impossible to conduct tests as such.
