Can I have a follower without following others. It is really confusing.

You can follow people whether or not they follow you. For example, I’ll follow you right now and you don’t have to follow me.
When you sign up you automatically are following brightbot, you can unfollow them if you want but it's a great place to start if you're new.
I think that's what you're referring to anyway lol
But yes, people can follow you even if you don't follow them 🙂
