I've come to the conclusion, public thread is the way to go, sunlight is the best disinfectant.
The Treechat activity triggering the latest activity to appear at top of main feed/thread is vital as this prevents the site being hyjacked, fragmented.
Also everybody lives by the same constraints here. This is Treechat not x/Twitter.
There is a reason it is designed like this, it is not an accident. Having a private thead and only using a private thread to me is not that different to email. I dont like email. I like modern day open air networking. I"m hesitant to request features, but some things are singing

It's a low traffic issue, sunlight is an absolute must. Or you end up with twitter and might as well be a data hosting site thats free.
