The protocol is secure and stable because to change it would undermine the revenue you're generating by these millions of businesses transacting on the "set in stone" protocol.
They don't understand what "decentralized" means. It exists at multiple levels and is solidified by the decentralized nature of businesses that exist on top of a stable protocol. Even there were only 2 large miners, but millions of businesses on top of BSV
