The best ways to consolidate power is to take the subjects resources and put them under central control. Poor people are powerless people.
The ways to achieve that are:
- Taxation
- Inflation
- Socialism

-A single global currency where every transaction is traceable
Good point.
I guess CSW would argue that Bitcoin would make governments honest.
You would argue for anonymous coins, right? Which have their own inherent problems.
I hope we get rid of the state altogether, take away its monopoly.
Oh
The state exists and won't just go away.
Certainly not anytime soon.
Making it more honest and stopping inflation seem like pretty good steps to me towards the goal of dismantling it step by step.
What do you think?
The more resources concentrated into fewer monies, the more vulnerable to state control.
A market for many different kinds of money/currency/commodity etc. is a better check on tyranny than a single global money.
Right now we have hundreds of currencies, thousands of digital currencies and the state seems to get along just fine, constantly growing and widening its sphere of influence
Not sure if that would be worse if Bitcoin were the world currency...
and yet we have a single global internet and it is still a bastion of free speech as a protocol, since here we are talking on that protocol that the blockchain and twetch are built upon. Maybe something about competition between states.
I hope that's the correct analogy.
No it's not. Money is a cooperative system. It's much better if we all use the same money. With multiple monies we have many uncooperative systems.
Economically yes, it's more efficient to not have to use several.
However in the face of a Technocratic State, a single, digital, trace-able money is a massive tool for control, and back-doors and exit options and alternatives are needed.
Not even in the economic sense, either, unless we assume that Bitcoin is the final-money-for-all-time.
If there's ever a future innovation that makes better money, we'll need competition and plurality to figure it out. Equilibrium is never reached.
What a bunch of mind convolution and conceptual masturbation. You are trying to steal @2956 's prize
Yeah I guess I'd say lower tx cost is economically better than higher tx cost, unless higher is getting you something more valuable (like competition).
Switching in and out of monies is one form of tx cost. But the lower THAT can switching be, the better.
Lol.
Same basic idea with theory of the firm. Firms exist bc tx cost of sourcing vendors is higher than in-house. We don't see one single megafirm bc agency cost (absence of comp) of all in-house rises with firm size.
A cost of mono-money is gov control.
TLDR: costs of concentrating a resource tend go down as it grows to a point, then new different costs start to go up, which is why you always want a system that allows competition and exit options.
There will never be ONLY one money, you guys need to leave the lab, there could be one *dominant* money, we hope it is bitcoin, and it will be very handy and enhance cooperation by orders of magnitude
And we don't know beforehand whether higher-cost tx's yield beneficial competition or whether they're unnecessary.
This is the same line of reasoning that makes people conclude "It'd more efficient if there was only one provider of electricity."
The same way, not every person is normal, there will always be paranoids who have a fantasy that they can escape the power of a government or a mob. There are also criminals, the real competition to government, who will try to compete in this area too
In the real world, if there is no effective government and rule of law, the boss is the organized crime, meaning, those who want to go the furthest, actually and morally, in order to attain power.
Come down, enough of penthouse thinking, what do you think?
I agree, there will always be several monies.
But I don't think a world where governments attempt to mandate a single global currency and make competitors illegal is impossible, and it's certainly not desirable.
Good to have low barriers $ competition.
If you want to get philosophical, think of the TAO, there is always yang AND yin, what changes is the proportion.
I do have fantasies about not letting my life be ruled by mobs and organized bands of criminals, whether flying state flags or not.
It's a good fantasy, and I do my best to live it out as much as possible!
You just described the world that already exists.
You can fantasize at will, but if you don't get practical you will have to live in your own mind in order to achieve what you want.
Which is the starting point, the reality is the only material available to be worked on
I hope too, be sure I share your concerns, and definitely blockchain could be used for evil, I just believe the good outweights the bad and over time that is self-reinforcing
Heroin no chance to b money unless itz legal; bc money is the commodity most often used as denominator in trading pairs.
If law wont let U buy bread using heroin then heroin wont b most common denominator => by def'n cannot b money
Money & the dude abides
