Long time no see, Sunnie! (At least, that's how my sense of time works, haha.) I was just thinking I wanted to talk to you, especially about this art.
I'm very conflicted right now. But it's a happy problem. I mentioned that this collection is art that fades with time. However, I believe the very function and purpose of digital data is that it doesn't deteriorate, that everything is authentic, and that it can be easily copied.
But this time, I'm deliberately trying to create digital art that deteriorates. Not data degradation, but purely artistic expression. This could be seen as going against the very role of digital data. Everything tangible in the physical world decays. So, in the digital world, is it necessary, or even meaningful, to "design" things to decay? That's what I'm struggling with.
However, talking to you has helped me organize my thoughts... (laughs), but there's no "answer" here (well, you could say there is, or you could say there isn't... that's another story about "sunyata"). The answer is something you have to decide for myself.
But that's precisely why I'm conflicted. Should art be allowed to deteriorate or not?
No, perhaps we can't even definitively say that fading expression is a deterioration of art...
