Yep... relying on the indexers can be a bit of a pain. It's 3rd party access to the blockchain... and not resilient like the p2p, small-world network Bitcoin is designed to offer.
Hopefully modern browsers will one day implement the BCAT (B://) protocol, or similar, like _unwriter had done with the Bottle browser. I think using that protocol, with direct links to content, I don't think you even need an indexer to grab stuff on-chain. Indexers I think are only required for searching. Surprised somebody hasn't built a Chrome extension to handle this...

Yes, one of my next goals is to create self-contained blockchain art that doesn't rely on indexers. Recently, my recursive interactive art (the mechanism for retrieving on-chain data) stopped working. I think it's probably due to a bug in ordfs .network (although my coding mistakes also played a part...).
However, at this point, I don't think there's any other way to fix it than to set up my own node.

I remember BCAT, unwriter thats how i put my first video onchain. this one is 100MB, and in BCAT format. 2019 still there and works
