Anyone have more details on this? How did they freeze this guy's coins?
Nobody mentions miners did it??

Miners didn't do it. Everyone is overplaying this. The guy was arrested. They did a court order 'freezing' his coins in the sense that he would be held liable if coins were spent. He agreed to turn them over.
It's not a 'miner freeze.'

Everyone gloating 'see! We told you that you could freeze Bitcoin! Welcome to law!' miss the point that nobody really contests that a court can make you turn over your wallet and keys and impose severe penalties if you don't.

That said, a miner freeze order could in theory be possible, or an exchange blacklist. Mike Hearn was I think the first person to ever talk about this, back in 2011/12.
