Sheep, not goats. What's up? Have issues? Questions about getting them? Pretty sure @27 has goats.

Twetch ·

Ahh, should've thought of @27 ! I just associate her with horses in my mind haha.

No issues per se, but considering adding a pair of Alpine x Nigerian Dwarf crosses to our farm for dairy and breeding and wondering what to look for in good stock.

We considered goats, but decided against them because we weren’t really into the idea of milking them. Lol. Instead, we are expanding the garden by A LOT. So, unfortunately, I can’t provide any insight into buying good milkin’ goats. Sorry y’all. ☺️

Yeah

Passing like ships in the night! We decided to greatly expand our animal husbandry and feed operation this year and keep the garden modest.

Animal protein inflation was a big factor. Did pick up a greenhouse, though!

Twetch ·

Thats incredible! We all have a part to play in Eden. ❤️🙇🏼‍♀️

your analysis is on point here. Also a factor I always like to remind people from a food security standpoint, is animals can transport themselves while in production if you have to travel, and things like goats can convert so much you can't eat into food.

Twetch ·

Definitely. Also looking forward to manure that can be directly applied to the garden, unlike our mounds of chicken shit.

my Aussie puppy lives for the chicken poop. I have to be careful, or he would eat all of it.

Twetch ·

Yeah. I’ve head rabbit poop is the same way! I’m open to raising meat rabbits for the poop and the food.

Twetch ·

have either of you seen the research around salmonella and it's ability to fight cancer?

Twetch ·

Nope. You have a link to this research? ☺️

I forget the person I learned about it from, but they were suggesting that high meats may have similar functionality.
