Another topic I find interesting is whether it is appropriate that the holocaust is a taboo, or as some put it - our war against the evil nazis and the horrors they wraught is a foundational, almost religious narrative that we are incentivized against questioning.

I've heard it said that it's so taboo that the legal system in the west is often brought to bear against holocaust denial. I did a little research, and other than in Germany, this is largely not true.

Sorry this is incorrect, saying the "west" is wrong. It is common to prosecute holocaust denial in many European countries. I did a bit of research with AI assistance and it highlighted specifically US and the UK. Those countries do not have a record of prosecuting holocaust denial.
