and another decision is about how to consume streams... right now stream members get an email breakdown... but should public streams require explicit invites? my current thinking is no, and people should just be able to follow them...

to follow, yes.. to join, something is needed. Maybe an invisible/private nod by two people already in the conversation? Then perhaps only the originator of the thread can see a graph to know who gave the nod to whom if the thread gets out if control, to then know who to 'allow' in future threads.
thinking of real world group situations, generally one of the questions asked is "who will be there?". Reputation, how to build online reputable group settings? I don't know the answer, and I appreciate being able to give feedback. It gets me thinking for the development of such systems I take for granted.
