I was an AnCap, but when I see how poorly AnCaps voluntarily interact & self-govern, I see nothing but wannabe dictators of irresponsible fiefdoms.
Not a fan of the modern state either, but I’m uninspired by everyone’s philosophies except proof of work.

I understand what you mean. When I started reading about libertarianism and Rothbard's work I felt like a State wasn't necessary at all.
Now I'm a bit more moderate in my views, but I still believe in small and local government over big and centralized.
Most Ancaps stopped reading after For a New Liberty. Rothbard grew his philosophy and so did his students and contemporaries. Hoppe pushed me toward monarchy in which rules are set by land owners. If renters don’t like the king they can find a better king.
I think the debate about systems is the problem.
In principle, humans are sovereign in personhood and property. If people could earn to respect that idea, the “system” becomes an irrelevant framework, for the most part.
Philosophy vs practice...
Correct, it all comes down to respect for property rights. In both the property of your sovereign self and your possessions and respecting the property rights of others.
Disrespecting that is what leads to confusion and initiatory violence.
