Some of you Americans are so dumb is laughable. Not all of you, but most.
Owning a gun for home defense isn't the flex you think it is 🤣🤣

I really don't understand how anyone could be against having a gun to protect your family and property. I wish Canada had the freedoms the US has.

because you shouldn't need a gun to feel safe at home. maybe it's just cos I'm European, but the idea of having a gun just to feel safe at home is absurd. Just don't choose to live in that area.

We still have guns but I'd like to be able to carry a gun all the time. Crime is up alot here. Homelessness is out of control here as well
Brooz ·
see that's crazy. surely that's on the government and local authorities to ensure a safe community

When I was a kid. About 50 kids would bring rifles to school for hunter education and gun safety courses.

that's wild. I can appreciate gun safety glasses for sure but the whole concept to me just seems like a lack of care and attention from authorities and the government

I trust government 0%, so there's that. All the government is, a monopoly of violence.
spacepirate33 ·
It was perfectly safe, no one ever got hurt, but that was in the 90s and earlier, pretty sure they don't do that now

Have you ever shot a gun?

Nope. I just want the skill only just in case I need it though because John Wick @spacepirate33

They represent human pettiness and misery... I'd rather be shot and leave this shitty world with my soul in peace than be the one who pulls the trigger...

Guns are a very good example to explain centralization of power vs decentralization of power:
Only the government has guns is a sure sign of centralizarion of power. Every tyrant from Hitler to Mao disarmed the people before killing millions.
Fact is, there are human predators. They have weapons. To take weapons from non-predartors is like cutting off the horns of goats because the wolves keep attacking the herd.
The only way to stop violence is force. Can you outsource force to someone else and hope they'll protect you? Sure. But then be consistent and throw away your fire extinguisher because the fire-fighting professionals will take care of it.
Complete pacifism, (as in "no self-defense") as RES mentions, is a possibility for those who have no family. It may be a very spiritual approach, but it is no good once someone is torturing your children and raping your wife. There's nothing spiritual about letting that happen...

BTW: I once thought exactly like Brooz. European propaganda put into my head: "Look at those uncivilized Americans!"
I had to admit I was wrong. Everybody having a right to carry weapons may cone with problems, but nothing compared to only bad people having weapons.
No solutions... just trade offs.

Of course ... I totally agree about the freedom... to make even the (from my points of view) wrong choices ... And then sincerely the deepest and most wounded part of me that detests this humanity ... It finds the idea of two men shooting each other almost fantastic ...
