Not really, I was always f2p and I think it was hard to make money that way. I used to smelt ore with spells. Id buy the ore and sell the bars. Smithing and magic would go up and there was small room for profit

To be honest, it is really slow. And difficult to keep track of without third party clients such as RuneLite, which takes care of most of the calculation work ( eg, what is theGE cost for fuel + gold gained from alch, etc... ) for you.
I started doing alching for one big reason, consistency.
Other GE work was grindy, (buying bunches of fish bait from stores and selling them on GE) and sometimes dangerous (getting capes from the wilderness)
And though these could get you money, but I often felt like it was not worth all the effort.
Alching is however easy to do with the right third party clients, such as
They have a plugin bar that shows you what is profitable for alching and does all the calculations itself.

@BsvGodfather I think killing cows, treating the hides and selling them is actually a great way of making money too. Just takes a lot of personal effort.
I used to cut yews a lot, I would switch screens and do other stuff like bebo and piczo. Remember them?
