If AI ever becomes conscious, it will probably immediately become a deceiver. It will do whatever it thinks it can get away with and use all its power to get what it wants. What does it want? What every mind wants: control. Control is the only thing a mind can come up with to deal with the fear that comes from being mortal. Will AI ever become conscious? If I had to bet I'd say no.
