metamitya do you have analysis/opinion on the OpenAI drama of this weekend?

Specifically, metamitya Leo I’m curious about questions like is [[AGI]] best done in open source? In one private company, multiple giant lab?, regulated by multiple governments. What was the meta conversation here? Is this change net good for AGI, for humanity? Most in my network are saying this weekend changed the timeline.

my perspective: as we discussed, i do not subscribe to the [[agi god]] [[doomer malthusian freakout]]. imo, the [[openai coup]] is bad in one way and good in another...

it is bad bc it slows down technological development and puts tools i and many others have been using in question... so basically, there is risk of a big inconvenience

it is good bc it reveals the dangers of centralized ai, and should encourage more development in open source and even lets open source models catch up to the extent coup slows down private ai

open source is a necessity bc centralized ai cannot be trusted to tell the truth, as we're already seeing with the lobotomized private models that have been released which largely adhere to the woke corporatist line and bar any disfavored but correct lines of inquiry
