I agree that does happen because people try to logically understand spiritual teachings they have no direct experience of.
They confuse "God is within me" with "I am God and can do whatever I want."

I guess we can agree that spirituality isn't safe from the grasp of the ego.
In fact, it may even be the ideal vehicle for the ego. Nothing serves the ego better than the illusion that the ego has been overcome.
But the challenges get harder as we progress, not easier...
On the path the danger of just assuming we have arrived is becoming greater with every step.
Who wouldn't want to finally stop, sit down, self-identify as enlightened and start being a teacher and leader.l? And now since we are so enlightened, we may as well sleep with all our female followers...
