"I agree with you" and "You are right" seem like the same thing. They are not.
The former is fine, the latter is extremely suspicious. It betrays that the person saying it feels like the arbiter of right and wrong, and on top of that it's a power-game: It's the attempt to take a position above the person we are replying to.

"You are right" has a place. It's what you say when you realize you were wrong about something and admit to that, not when you are trying to express agreement.
