Is that sarcasm? The document was penned in part by slave-owning white supremacists. It enshrined slavery. Nobody alive today ever signed up for it. It is a compact among parties that are not alive today.
You must see beyond the circumstances that was part of society back then.
You can draw the same conclusion/line if someone wrote something today that improves the future hundreds of years later, some things are bad, but the signal & direction is not.

We already are doing better, with some off shoots here and there. Look at Great Britain and what it has done for law over the years, despite its journey through it. We got to build upon something good to move forward and be better. No scrap & start over.
I was expecting more of the Hong Kong / Singapore / Dubai - "we're doing better" examples. HK = has to deal with Beijing. Singapore has more state-managed capitalism and Dubai has Sharia. Not judging, to each his own, but I agree the UK is a good model
We got to vote with all our resources we earn in life to make adjustments and movement towards a better future, no term vote for political direction is going to make this happen (it is only a small part of it). I like the Swiss & swift (direct) model.
The Swiss cantonal / direct democracy system is great. I also love the way things are set up in neighboring Liechtenstein. These small well-managed countries are great. So inspirational and promising!
In short; we have a future, a bright one if we seize it.
