I have read the transcript you posted.
I'd agree, that a clock is slowing down the compute.
You either let it run at full speed or you don't.
When the task is done, its done and you have to wait for new input.
However, for some things you may need a clock, at least for timing tasks, even though the time or the input to act at a certain time can come from an outside system or command (which would have a clock).
But maybe I didn;t understood what is being meant with "clock".
In general I like the forth approach, can;t let go of it.
It is kinda funny, that Gordon Moore is famours for "Moore's Law" which stands for exponential growth in computer hardware (transistors), while Chuck Moore is famnous for making code/programs more efficient (logarithmic reduction).
