Keeping animals in cages is wrong.
Keeping any animal and domesticating it is wrong.

I totally love, respect and appreciate the lengths people go to, to save and rehabilitate animals. I myself have done it many times. I'm not talking about rescuing and releasing here.

I have grown up with cats my entire life since being 3 years old, until recently when our cat suffered a sudden heart attack unexpectedly. (No he wasn't jabbed, or neutered and he was fed on a raw diet) Unfortunately, it was in his genetics - possible heart defect. Another reason why I'm out of the pet industry.

My selfish reasons would quickly see my wanting to adopt another cat. However, cats are wild animals that have been domesticated. What I love about them is how they will quickly return to their natural predatory state in a flash, unlike a dog that has been conditioned and trained.

That's for another story...

We feed a carnivorous animal other animals and take away it's own ability to hunt for food itself. We raise farmed animals in captivity just to be fed to a cat that we won't let out to find food for itself, It's backwards. Yes cats specifically will kill and torture for fun, but they also do eat what they've killed given a chance at hunger, and not knowing it's got it's kibble waiting at home at 6pm.

Dogs are scavengers by nature, they don't actually need meat to live. A cat on the other hand is a pure carnivore.

The truth is, the entire pet industry needs re-evaluating.

I will not be getting another animal again, as much as I love all creatures, I would much rather see them free and in their natural habitat. When I eventually live on land, if a farm cat happens to cross my path then it may get a stroke here and there, but I would not attempt to domesticate it.

In my world

All animals are free
There are no zoos
There are no seaworlds or marine aquarium zoos.

There are no fish tanks
There are no reptile tanks
No pet shops

Humans are the only reason animals need 'rescuing or helping'. They get stuck in our nets, locked in our sheds and garages, chopped with our lawn mowers and strimmers, trapped in plastic packaging, tested on in labs, wrapped up in our fishing nets and discarded rubbish. We have removed so much of their landscape and replaced it with concrete, fake grass, plastic plants and buildings. We've removed trees, ponds, streams and grass lands.

Everyone has a 6ft fence up, no room for hedgehogs or foxes to enter, swapped real grass for plastic, or concrete and stopped adding plants.

There is only over population in certain species because the apex predator has been removed through hunting or habitat loss.

We brought the grey squirrels into red squirrel territory - we played with the natural rhythm and yet the only one that suffers are the animals. Mass culling because they're pests. Yet there is 0 accountability for the fact humanity did it in the first place.

We trained pigeons during the war, used them, sacrificed them for ourselves, then discarded them like vermin, kicking them in the street.

We really are a vile species. It's one of the reasons I am so vocal about animals, because we are truly the beasts of this realm.

Birds should not be kept in cages, and trained to speak in our living rooms for entertainment, monkeys shouldn't be dressed up and used in the Circus. Horses and dogs shouldn't be raced for sport, or used to aid our bettings.

The animal kingdom is not our puppet to puppiter.

It has suffered in silence for decades. It has no voice to communicate, it doesn't speak our language. So just like children, we have to be their voice.

People get so annoyed with the word vegan, I don't truly believe any of us can and are vegan. Even driving down the road you'll squash bugs on your windscreen by accident. Most car interiors are leather, and even tissues are tested on animals. It's almost impossible to get away from.

What we can do though is make a more conscious effort to use our hearts and our brains to switch on compassion and empathy, and to also think logically about things we have been conditioned to not need to think about.

Even if it's reading a label to check if something is 'vegan' or not means it's not been tested on animals. Even if you consume flesh, at least be an advocate against animal testing. It takes seconds to check labels.

People truly believe we are living in a time of advancement. I feel we have descended so far the other way that we can't even tell the difference. Fast food is fast for a reason. Everything we need to use our brains for has been done for us. It's made people complacent, lazy, ignorant and blissfully unbothered.

... And guess what we are now paying the price for it. Our ignorance has got us deep into this mess, mental and physical health declines, poor living conditions and unregulated nervous systems. Yet we point the finger at everyone but ourselves.

How often do you really just take a moment to logically and consciously become aware …
