The SAGE system was the precursor to what we're building now. A decentralized consensus protocol system for intercepting Soviet nuclear bombers.
"The SAGE network of computers connected by a "Digital Radar Relay"[60] (SAGE data system)[61] used AT&T voice lines, microwave towers, switching centers"
Most of the SAGE facilities were obsolete from the moment of their inception
I have been working on buying one of the facilities that was upgraded for the past 3 years. Originally intended to build a self sufficient mining facility which found crossovers with agriculture.
Goal transitioned as I learned more, to create basically a "mesh" networking node of sorts, to provide redundant connectivity to rural communities through wifi and broadband over barbed wire.
Would be interested in your 1A2 aspirations. The facility has some remnants of it's packet switching system. Though I believe it is AT&T and not a Bell system.
At the end of the day, I have had this notion that we have to provide more robust communications networks. I want my rancher and farmer family members to have as good or better communications than their urban counterparts.
Still want to do some kind of data storage/data mining at site, but more in line with Library of Alexandria than finance.
