I think God is a somewhat of a collective term for something more divine than man, to some, it's possible quite nondescript.

That song implies that freedom can be found. But freedom is such an ambiguous term. You have to consider that there is always a higher power permits, or promises us to be free and with that comes their standard as to what freedom is or appears to be to us
