Tha Story Pt.1
Grandmother —
As the sounds of a newborn's cries enter into mothers ears
She couldn't help but bear in mind the tragic loss of last year
Her mother, my grandmother, whom she lost to one simple surgical operation
Who had ten children, three boys and seven girls
Who put the neighborhood on her back like bookbags with braided stripes
She was the one who fed ten mouths with a wooden spoon
You were like that last piece of the puzzle to make the picture complete
Just by the display of your first daughter's personality
I see you were the foundation memories were built on
The one who we could come to when we needed
a shoulder to lay our trust upon
Your love was beauty that couldn't be captured by a picture
The grandmother that was the brick layer of family structure
that kept us together
It was never sad days, only when imperfection
took you away from the hands of ten
But now, those memories are off Saginaw Street
The memories I will have to treasure are the pictures
That say more than a thousand words
Imagining if I could pull you out of those pictures
To show how much I miss you
But yet at a young age not knowing why
Is it because seeing your name engraved on a stone
Pierces the mind of a seven-year-old that didn't know looking at a tombstone
Would deliver sadness to the entrance of an unbalanced heart
I'm writing you this letter based on reality dreams
Nights when looking at your first daughter, sadness would overflow
Like rivers and abandoned streams, this is where I got my inspiration from
I was only a year and seven days late from meeting my grandmother
I will have to wait for hugs that remind you of peace between wisdom
I can only dream your smile was of a million sunsets, beautiful
Your hair of gray-headedness
Your eyes always, the color at the end of fall right before winter
One day we will meet as if you skip spring and blossom in the summer
